“Come Climb my Tree” with Roberta Shea
From June 7 through July 21, 2022, “Come Climb My Tree,” an exhibition of vibrant oil paintings and one-of-a kind monoprints by Newtown, CT artist Roberta Shea, will be on view in the Mary C. Daly Art Gallery at Mercy by the Sea. The exhibit is open to guests at Mercy by the Sea. If you're not attending a retreat or program, please contact Ann McGovern, RSM to arrange for a private showing.
All are welcome to join us for an opening reception on Sunday, June 12 from 2-4 p.m. at Mercy by the Sea. Guests are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and to wear masks.
Roberta paints vividly-hued, highly-textured landscapes that express the seasonal changes in nature and flora. Making original monoprints has liberated her painting and this, in turn, has informed her prints. She believes that the most important thing is to let the paint be the protagonist that directs the narrative: “the medium is the message,” she says. “I am grateful to be able to show both my prints and paintings together in this exhibit.”
Through the passionate and perceptive observations of nature, Roberta has developed her signature style which is inspired by Abstract Expressionism and Impressionism. With loose, bold brush strokes and color combinations, she seamlessly moves from realistic to abstract. Through the process of layering and building up color and then removing it, lines and forms emerge from her dense compositions which capture an energetic sense of place.
Roberta Shea is a member of the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN), Washington Arts Association and Ridgefield Guild of Artists. Her art is currently on exhibit at Gallery 21 at Arts Escape in Southbury, CT. The Arts League of New Britain featured her painting on the front of this year’s poster for the 2022 Connecticut Woman Artists (CWA) juried exhibition. Roberta grew up in Madison and is looking forward to showing her exhibit in her hometown. To learn more about Roberta, check out her website.
