Opening Reception: Sunday, January 13, 2-4 p.m.; snow date, January 20, 2-4 p.m.
The January exhibit in the Mary C. Daly RSM Art Gallery at Mercy by the Sea, is a collection of quilt art by the current members of Sisters in Cloth, a group of Connecticut women who meet regularly to encourage and inspire each other to make art. The exhibit features the works of Diane Wright, Robin Nozato Wolek, Debra Bento, Yvette Howard, Carol Ludington, Ruth Anne Olson, Barbara Coleman Adams, Gail Kotowski, Linda Zimmerman, Gina Grubb Frank and Alice Chittenden.
The work on display is a combination of both recent and older works, all selected to create a sense of calm amidst layers of color and texture. Some of the pieces were created to be part of a group exhibit, others were created individually. As you wander through the exhibit, you may begin to identify the work of each artist without having to read the signs.
Sisters in Cloth began in 2001, as part of the Guilford Newcomers Club. They have been exhibiting their work as a group along the Connecticut shoreline for 15 years. Individual members have also exhibited their work in states and countries as diverse as Australia, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, France, England, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Vermont, California, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia.
The Mary C. Daly RSM Art Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to all.
