January 6: Introducing Sister Mary McCarthy, RSM

As we begin a new year here at Mercy by the Sea, we are full of anticipation about what this new season will bring. Before Christmas, the Board of Trustees introduced Sister Mary McCarthy, RSM, as Mercy’s new Interim Executive Director. There will be opportunities for you to hear from her over the coming weeks.

Before taking on her current role, Sister Mary was a teacher and administrator in Catholic schools for all her professional life. A large part of her career was spent at Mercy High School in Middletown, CT, where she held the positions of Dean of Studies, Principal and President, and where she was a role model to thousands of young women.

At her retirement celebration from Mercy High School in 2020, many spoke of her faithful commitment to the ideals of the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley, who believed in doing “ordinary things extraordinarily well.” As she guides Mercy by the Sea through this next chapter, we are confident that Sister Mary will make these words a reality. Please feel free to be in touch with her by email.
