2018 Retreat: The Song of the Sacred Earth with John Philip Newell
"The Song of the Sacred Earth" is the second annual gathering of the New England School of Celtic Consciousness. It is open to all, those who attended the first year of the School as well as those who wish to join the three-year curriculum.
John Philip Newell will teach on themes related to the sacredness of Earth, drawing on some of the greatest visionaries of our Celtic Christian inheritance, including the 20th-century prophet of environmental consciousness, John Muir. Participants will experience the teachings in the context of morning and evening prayer, shared meals and contemplative practices enabled by members of the Mercy by the Sea team. There will also be free time to walk the beach, to rest and to celebrate our time together at a party on the last evening.
Advance required reading includes John Philip Newell’s Listening to the Heartbeat of God: A Celtic Spirituality and The Book of Creation: An Introduction to Celtic Spirituality, both published by Paulist Press.
The retreat begins Tuesday, July 10 and concludes on Thursday, July 12. There are no more rooms available on the Mercy by the Sea campus for this program. However, you can put your name on a waiting list. Cost for a single occupancy room is $450; for double occupancy, $350/person, which includes the program as well as meals Tuesday dinner through Thursday breakfast. There is plenty of space available for commuters who may attend the program for $250. The commuter rate includes dinners on Tuesday and Wednesday and lunch on Wednesday.
