Guided Retreats

A Guided Retreat is attended as part of a group and is centered around a particular theme or topic and includes daily talks or presentations that provide opportunity for communal and private reflection and prayer.   A Guided Retreat provides time to slow down our body, mind and spirit enabling us to listen more deeply to the movement of our God in our lives.  Silence is often observed during parts of the day, and meals and is often part of a Guided Retreat.

Learning to Bear the Beams of Love

Early on in Lent we hear that Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led into the wilderness for forty days. He went into the desert after having been baptized in the Jordan with “the name Beloved ringing in his ears” as Jan Richardson writes. As we embark on our Lenten Journey, what better way for each of us to begin this graced season than to allow God to speak that same truth to us, and to come to know ourselves and our world as Beloved.

The Grace of Resilience

Resilience is a grace…a gift of the Spirit that blesses our lives with insight and provides opportunities for deepening our relationship with ourselves, others, and God!  Resilience is also part of the bedrock of well-being across the lifespan.  This guided retreat will explore the role spirituality plays in promoting and sustaining resilience throughout the years.

Retreat days will allow for time for individual and communal prayer, shared conversation, and guided reflections.  The daily flow of the retreat will include a morning gathering, with afternoons free for prayer and reflection, and a “gathering of graces” towards the end of the day.

Presenter: Mary Pat Garvin, RSM is a Sister of Mercy of the Americas.  Mary Pat is a life-long educator, having ministered in elementary and secondary schools, as well as higher education.  Other ministerial experiences include congregational leadership and work with religious congregations, specifically in the area of education of formation personnel.  Mary Pat has provided conferences and retreats on Catherine McAuley and the Mercy charism at Mercy International Centre in Dublin, Ireland and throughout the Mercy world.  Integral to Mary Pat’s ministry is the interplay of spirituality and psychology in promoting a healthy and holy living of Religious Life.
