“ART OF THE MANDALA”
An exhibition featuring the work of digital artist Laura West
April 1 - September 24, 2010
Starting from April 1, 2010, the Mary C. Daly, RSM Art Gallery at Mercy Center will feature a colorful and thought provoking exhibition entitled the Art of the Mandala. The show is the work of digital artist Laura West. The exhibition will run from April 1 through September 24, 2010.
The 26 mandalas featured in the exhibition were created in Photoshop using both photographs and fractals to create a rich variety of images. The mandala is an art form based on the circle. Their beauty often lies in rotational symmetry. Mandalas have appeared throughout history in both Eastern and Western spiritually based art. The circle as a symbol of completion tends to evoke a oneness with God and all of creation.
Laura West studied art at Cooper Union in NYC and at the Yale School of Art. She has exhibited widely in Connecticut in juried and solo shows. She has taught art at the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven and at the Guilford Arts Center. Laura has a Masters of Art Therapy from Vermont College. She has given workshops at CT Hospice for the Wellness Empowerment program. She is also an interfaith minister and offers spiritual/life guidance privately and co-facilitates Course in Miracles groups.
