Gardeners

Volunteers play a vital role in tending the natural beauty of the grounds that Mercy by the Sea is nestled within. With care and intention, they weed, edge, remove invasives, and mulch key areas across the property, including:

  • Front entrance plantings
  • Pollinator garden near Seascape
  • Labyrinth
  • Perennial garden by the greenhouse
  • Along the Long Island Sound side of the Center
  • Patio and steps outside Grant Library
  • Courtyard gardens
  • Herb garden outside the kitchen

This hands-on work nurtures both the land and the spirit of our community.

Additionally, we have a long-term relationship with the UConn Master Gardener Program. Beginning in 2012, Mercy by the Sea was accepted as an outreach project of the University of Connecticut (UConn) Master Gardener Program. Annually, Master Gardener interns choose Mercy by the Sea as their site to learn from and engage with the land.

If you would like to volunteer and be part of this meaningful work while enjoying the peace, connection, and beauty that grow alongside your efforts, contact us at 203-245-0401.
