About this offering
This Professional Enrichment Day for Spiritual Directors provides a space for spiritual directors to gather for fellowship, formation, and personal reflection.
Nighttime dream images can be confusing, scary, and embarrassing. When a directee brings dreams to direction, the director can experience a proverbial deer in the headlights moment. In the worldview of depth psychology – the psychology of spirituality - dream images are Soul messages with benefit for the dreamer. Some dreams hold multiple layers of significance that are revealed over time, a rich storehouse for nurturing Soul and Spirit. This day-long training will support directors in learning to be faithful, unobtrusive, and trustworthy guides of their directees’ exploration of dream images. The methods introduced here can also be applied to waking world experiences, helping directees to perceive the activity of God in their lives and offer support in their discernment of God’s call.
This day of enrichment will offer directors:
- A live example of tending a dream in a spiritual direction session with opportunity for debrief and discussion
- Tips on how to facilitate the shift in consciousness required to fully benefit from dream material
- An array of tools for the dreamer to open and amplify their dream images
- A few words on archetypes of the collective unconscious and why they matter
- Methods for dreaming the dream forward
- Self-care tips for the director who accompanies their directees in exploring the underworld realm of griefs, terrors, and overwhelm
- Cautions on the ethics of dream work
