A Day of Celtic Prayer and Tradition on the Feast of St. Brigid of Kildare with Debra Brown-Norko, MD & Mary C. Daly, RSM
Saint Bridget of the Isles, who wanders far, With a Dove, a Thrush, and a Golden Star. To nurse in her arms Saint Mary’s Child, Saint Mary she gives, with her eyes so mild, To Bridget her mantle with Stars shining bright. To calm the wild Elements by their light.
St. Brigid, a patron saint of Ireland, is fondly remembered for her miraculous deeds. More important, she was a beloved leader within the early Celtic Christian church as she helped to shape its spirituality.
In this day of Celtic prayer, we will explore some of the history and lore of this remarkable woman and partake of some of the traditions that are associated with this special feast day. Our time together will include music, prayer and time for quiet reflection.
The day begins at 9:30 a.m. and will conclude at 2:30 p.m. Lunch served in the McAuley dining room will be Irish-themed with vegan options available.
Debra Brown-Norko, MD is a retired pediatrician who is currently a student at Yale Divinity School. She has discovered new understandings of our Creator God and ways of prayer from attending John Philip Newell’s School of Celtic Consciousness held annually at Mercy by the Sea.
Mary C. Daly is a Sister of Mercy, an artist and theologian experienced in spiritual direction and retreat work. She holds a Doctoral Degree in Religious Studies from Marquette University.
