Nothing Is Exempt from Resurrection

As I look at spring emerging after the winter—the daffodils smiling from the overgrowth, the crocuses strong and sturdy, the renewed sense of energy all around—I am aware again that resurrection is an integral part of life.  Poet and educator Kay Ryan writes that “Nothing is exempt from Resurrection!”

We must have hope. Everything in nature attests to the persistence and resilience of life. And though our hearts may be overwhelmed at times with a sense of violence and death, we need to hold to the truth that Life and Love are triumphant in the end. We have our responsibility in this life, death and resurrection story: solidarity with the poor and suffering, welcoming the stranger, treating one another and every piece of life with dignity and respect, opening our hearts to all of life, loving even when it hurts.

May you be blessed this Easter with the firm belief that God is faithful to us and will keep the promise of life to all of Creation. May you, and those you love, know hope in God’s mercies, which are renewed every morning and never exhausted. (Lamentations 3). And may you be held tenderly in God’s hands as we continue this incredible journey of life, death and resurrection.
