Love Without Boundaries

With the announcement that financial aid is being cut to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, my prayer this morning drifted to the many trips I had made to visit our Mercy mission in Chanmagua, Guatemala. One trip, in particular, stood out.

My travelling companion, Sister Ellen Kurtz and I had spent the night in Guatemala City en route to Chanmagua. After travelling across Guatemala City, we boarded the bus to begin the four-hour bus trip — no bathrooms or AC on the bus — to Esquipulas. There we planned to meet our Sisters and travel the rest of the way up the mountain, ultimately arriving in Chanmagua.

Nothing Is Exempt from Resurrection

As I look at spring emerging after the winter—the daffodils smiling from the overgrowth, the crocuses strong and sturdy, the renewed sense of energy all around—I am aware again that resurrection is an integral part of life.  Poet and educator Kay Ryan writes that “Nothing is exempt from Resurrection!”

Finding God in the Bits and Pieces of Everyday

Hoping for a little inspiration, I recently drove to Hammonasset Beach to reflect on Lent and my plan for this holy season.  Ash Wednesday was coming, the temperature was in the 60s, and a little quiet beach walk seemed just right for this consideration.
