About this Offering

“The Music of What Happens” is the title of a song by singer/songwriter and retreat facilitator Carmel Boyle. She returns to Mercy by the Sea from Ireland. Her retreat this year will be guided by a question posed by Finn McCool, a great leader in Celtic mythology. He asks, “What’s the most beautiful music of all?” Through her original songs, stories and contemplative prayer, participants will be invited to listen to the beautiful music of their lives, the songs sung through joy and pain and the heavenly song that the Divine voice hums within them, within nature and within the universe itself. The wise answer provided by Finn states that the most beautiful music of all is “The music of what’s happening.” This answer prompts an invitation to greater depth and to listen to the music of heaven in all of life here and now.

This seaside retreat might be like entering a music booth that plays heart-opening and soul-touching songs. It can be a sacred sanctuary or what the Celts described as a “thin place” in which the veil between heaven and earth seems discernibly thin.

About the Presenter

Carmel Boyle, who is an Anam Cara (“soul-friend), has always been led by song on her spiritual journey, and she hopes to be an Anam Cara for retreat participants as she leads them with her songs. She draws on the wisdom of Anam Cara in the Celtic tradition to companion retreat participants as they listen for the heart rhythm of the Divine in everything. Carmel is rooted in the Celtic Christian tradition, and the writings of Christian mystics which inspire her song and her ministry. Carmel has performed internationally for royalty, presidents and ambassadors, but now enjoys going deeper with the content of songs and the power of her voice in a retreat environment.
